How to calculate the dimension of curtain rods?
1) How to calculate the dimension of the bracket?
You can leave 1 to 3 inch between the end of the bracket and the shelf edge depending on the dimension of the shelf. The brackets are not exactly the dimension showed, due to the forgings process, even if we ty to make it closer. It’s more or less 1/8″ to 1/4″.
The dimension of the bracket is referred to the length of the shelf. For example, a bracket of 6″ is made for receive a shelf of 6″. So, It’s calculated 6″ from the wall to the end of the shelf and I leave a little space of around 1/8″ between the shelf and inside the lip of the bracket.
The longest dimension is the length and the shorter is the height.
2) How strong are the bracket?
All my brackets are very strong. I’m not a scientist but I made a little try with an anvil in my shop as you can see in this photo.
Classic Brackets are made with solid bars 1/4″ x 1″, 1/4″ x 1 1/2″ or 3/8″ x 1 1/2″ for the bracket itself and 3/8″ or 1/2″ for the scrolls. They can take 50 to 100 pounds each.
These brackets are very strong. they are made with 3/4″ or 1″ solid square. They can take more than 100 pounds each.
Note: It is important to make sure that is strongly attached to the wall with good fasteners. You can also distribute the weight on a largest number of brackets. But, by the way, you have to make sure that is strongly attached to the wall with good fasteners.
